Stags Leap Vineyard (S.L.V.) makes wines from grapes grown in California's Napa Valley. Carl Doumani founded S.L.V. after he fell in love with the delicate tastes Napa Valley vineyards offered. He purchased 44 acres of elevated land that was ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes and set about creating a classic brand. The winery and the grounds have a storied history rich in mummies, ghosts and mischievous monkeys that dates back to 1872. Owners dabbled in winemaking through the years, and Horace Chase constructed the manor house and massive wine cave in the late 1890s with the idea of making wine on the grounds. When Doumani purchased the property in 1970, it was shabby and overgrown, so he spent his resources to restore the fields, manor and wine cave. Today, visitors can experience the historical relevance of the charming estate by booking a tour of the property. Visitors will enjoy wine tastes while they learn the colorful and alluring details of the area’s antiquity.
